Damaged after the Canterbury Quakes The Gym has been beautifully restored and strengthened. This is the first building in the historic Christchurch Arts Centre to open and is available year round for hire. The Gym offers great facilities, very professional technical support in a central location. In my experience as an event manager in New Zealand, the facilities and professional artistic and technical support in The Gym are at a very high level. I have seen a range of events taking place at The Gym and am constantly surprised about the broad opportunities the venue offers and the chance to integrate arts into creative events.

What contributed to the success of WADE? A superb venue – the location in the Arts Centre, the Free Theatre in an historic building, the flexibility to create ambience via soft black curtains defining the space, the sophisticated lighting and sound capability which provided an experience of the work more than a mere viewing.
