Tony McCaffrey
Tony McCaffrey has worked for many years as an actor, director and playwright in the UK, France, Turkey, the US and New Zealand. He adapted Charlotte Randall's novel The Curative for the stage and directed the NZ tour of Enda Walsh's Disco Pigs. In 2004 he founded A Different Light Theatre Company in Christchurch, an ensemble of people with intellectual disabilities. He has a PhD in Theatre and Film Studies and for many years has presented at the conferences of Performance Studies International and the International Federation for Theatre Research. He currently teaches, researches and publishes at Ara Institute. A Different Light Theatre has toured to San Jose, Leeds, Sydney and Melbourne and has collaborated with Richard Gough of the Centre for Performance Research and disability culture artist and activist, Petra Kuppers. Tony directed Free Theatre's production of The Empire Builders (1997) and A Different Light has collaborated with Free Theatre on The Earthquake in Chile (2011) and Canterbury Tales (2013).
