Rory Dalley

Rory's background is as a solo and group performer and producer of improvised music and sonic art. In this capacity he has been involved in collaborating with a large range of local and international musicians. Notable performances have been with Dutch sound poet Jaap Blonk and Japanese drummer Shoji Hano. He has enjoyed accepting invitations to play solo in Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland, and with his duo Memory Burn at Lines Of Fllght in Dunedin, and supporting Merzbow (Japan) in Auckland. He has also collaborated live with dancers Kristian Larsen and Julia Milsom, performed live film soundtracks and championed diverse performance environments. Rory has been involved in the organisation of various events. Lead curatorial and organisational roles have included God Destroyer/ Ird Months/ Teen Haters live audiovisual performance/ installation at The Physics Room, Happening Not Happening mini-festival, and Lower Steam & Higher Fields/ Lower Fields & Higher Ways afternoon/evening event at Log Recordings. Rory has been a member of Borderline Ballroom since 2008, now the Managerial Committee of Canterbury Society of Sonic Artists (CSSA)/ The Auricle. His role has extended to hostingThe Auricle BYO Record club and presenting radio shows on Lyttelton's Volcano Radio. He now hosts the show "Surprise Attack" on RDU. In 2016, Rory has continued to serve as a drummer for various Christchurch bands, which has extended to comprise involvement in a handful of prominent groups. Recently he has also been involved with Free Theatres Ubu Nights and their productions of Frankenstein (2016), Alice (2018) and Summer Night's Dream (2020).
