Chris Reddington
Faust Chroma (2008)
Chris Reddington works in Christchurch as a theatre technician, sculptor, composer, ensemble director and musician. He was employed part-time at the University of Canterbury, Theatre and Film department as their Technical Director and Designer where he was involved with set design, set construction, music direction and performance. Recently he has built and designed a portable theatre/circus tent, which is erected seasonally in Christchurch. He has also worked on stage sets for a number of Free Theatre productions: I Sing the Body Electric, Hereafter, Earthquake in Chile, Dr Faustus, Distraction Camp, Enigma Emmy Goring, Nico Sphinx of Ice, Faust Chroma which received Best Set award at the Wellington Fringe Festival in 2009 and Alice. He also composed and performed the music for Faust Chroma, which won Best Theatre act for the Dunedin Fringe Festival in 2008. He has a degree in Craft design from Christchurch Polytech (1996 – 1998). He is self-employed as a sculptor and has completed commissions for the Christchurch City Council and Saint Thomas of Canterbury College. His sculpture of Rudyard Kipling in Kipling Street, Addington received a Civic Trust Award in 2006. He has completed a Degree in Craft Design from Christchurch Polytechnic in 1998. Previously he has worked for New Zealand sculptors Neil Dawson, Julia Morison and Graham Bennett. As a Musician he is the founder, composer/arranger, pianist and manager of Christchurch based Silencio Ensemble, which was set up in 2004 to help support and build interest in contemporary ensemble music. He is pianist for Christchurch Tango Quintet Tango La Luna and performs regularly around the city in various jazz settings.
