About
"In-development" are special seasons Free Theatre provides within its Te Puna Toi/Contemporary Performance Programme in The Gym to allow for workshopping and experimentation. Promoting especially an interdisciplinary approach between the arts and different sectors, Free Theatre works with collaborators towards new projects and hosts residencies of artists and groups to develop their own interdisciplinary work. Workshops, artist talks, Ubu Nights, happenings and 'spin-offs', are incorporated into the "in-development" phase with outcomes providing distinct new work and opportunities for emerging and established artists and producers. The onus on process and development as much as product and presentation provides a distinct and unique offering in Christchurch and has seen the emergence of new works such as: Kafka's Amerika, Footprints/Tapuwae, The Mauricio Kagel Project, Frankenstein and The Black Rider.
Upcoming: Markets and Puppets

Based on the market place theatre of commedia dell’ arte and the physical theatre of Jacques Lecoq, the ensemble is currently developing work as part of its "in-development" season. This culminated last year in a series of presentations in early December and an Ubu Night The Art of the Deal.....
